Why We Built OPC Community

We weren't trying to build a platform. We were trying to solve our own problem. Here's the story of how OPC Community started.

OPC Community

Founders

Most communities start with a grand vision. OPC Community started with a Slack DM that said: 'Is anyone else exhausted by how performative founder Twitter has become?'

That message led to a group chat. The group chat led to a weekly call. The weekly call became the thing we all looked forward to most each week — not because anyone was impressive, but because everyone was honest.

The problem we kept running into

We tried everything. Twitter is useful but it rewards performance over substance. Discord communities are great until they hit a critical mass and become impossible to navigate. Most 'founder communities' either don't let you in until you're already successful, or let everyone in and immediately lose signal.

What we wanted was simple: a place where you could share your actual revenue number, ask a dumb question, admit you were struggling, and get a real response from someone who had been there.

The best communities aren't built. They're discovered — and then carefully tended.

The one-person company as a lens

We chose 'one-person company' as our organizing principle deliberately. It's specific enough to attract the right people (people actually building real things), but broad enough to include the full range of what that looks like — from indie hackers to freelancers to solo SaaS founders to creator-businesses to solo consultants generating $500K/year.

The one thing these people have in common: they chose leverage over headcount. They chose autonomy over approval. And they're often doing it in places and contexts where nobody around them quite gets it.

Our mission

OPC Community's mission is to become the world's largest and most diverse community for one-person companies — to serve and genuinely accompany every independent builder on their path to success. Not just the ones who are already crushing it. Not just the ones in San Francisco. Everyone.

We're early. The platform is still growing. But the community is real, and the conversations are already the kind you don't find anywhere else. That's what we're building toward.
